Where
can I donate blood?
To find blood drives in your area, see our Donor Calendar
, or call 856-256-8300, ext.15 It's only through your generous
blood donations that ... Together, we can save a life.
Who can give blood?
To give blood you must be healthy, at least 17 years old,
weigh at least 110 pounds, not have donated blood in the
last 56 days or donated double red cells in the last 112
days. There is no upper age limit. You may not give blood
if you have received notification from the American Red Cross
or any other blood collection organization asking you not
to do so.
Why is my American Red Cross CPR Skills
Certification good for only one year?
Some other organizations offer a two-year certification.
The American Red Cross has considered extensive research showing that
CPR skills are not used consistently by most people; so much of what
is learned is lost after the first few months. Also, even those organizations
that do issue a two-year certification recommend re-certifying your
CPR skills after one year.
I’ve been a Red Cross Instructor
for years. Why do the course materials and method of performing
certain skills keep changing?
The American Red Cross constantly reviews and updates materials
to keep up with current medical research and technological
advances in the field of emergency care. American Red Cross
materials are widely used by other organizations as the basis
of their training courses as well.
How much time does it take to volunteer?
You can give as much or as little time as you can spare,
to help with a variety of projects. Volunteer Opportunities
run the gamut from serving as a chapter board member, to
assisting at disasters, to registering blood donors, to answering
phones in the office, even becoming a Red Cross Instructor/Trainer.
Check out our Volunteer Opportunities page.
What happens to my donation?
All disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary
donations of time and money from the American people. All
donations made to The American Red Cross, Gloucester County
Chapter will remain in the county helping the chapter to
provide sheltering, food, counseling, and other assistance
to those in need. All donations made to the American
Red Cross are directed to the use the donor intends, whether
local, national or international. |
